How Reiki Helps
Modern life is stressful. People are busy, working longer hours than ever before. Technology has become so pervasive that we are even forgetting what it means to have time to ourselves. It's no surprise that under such pressure, an increasing number of people are suffering from stress-related problems.
This increase in stress has triggered the need for health professionals with a holistic approach. Western medicine often focuses on treating the symptoms of a problem. Reiki helps the whole person - mind, body and energy. When energy doesn't flow, it becomes blocked and can manifest into physical symptoms. Over time, Reiki empowers you with a heightened awareness of what your body needs in order to be healthy.
Through Reiki, I can help you in a variety of ways. From a quick energy pick-me-up to a series of sessions to transform your wellbeing. The way we feel about ourselves and the world around us impacts on everything we do. A calming session of Reiki gives the mind space to breathe and brings the body back to where it belongs - a world where it feels connected to all living things. The gentle flow of Reiki can ease physical pain and help people to move beyond emotional stumbling blocks.
It gives me immense joy to see people progress on their individual journeys, which is why I always take the time to get to know and understand my clients.
If you find yourself relating to any one of these statements below, then Reiki can definitely help.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How is a Reiki treatment given?
A. All you have to do to receive Reiki is relax fully clothed on my massage table under a warm duvet. It's very conducive to sleep and I won't be offended if you do. Reiki will work either way, but works best when you're relaxed. I give Reiki by placing my hands gently on and above you. I focus around the head and shoulders, the stomach, and feet. My massage table is adjustable for pregnant clients and anyone suffering from back pain or injuries.
Q. What does a Reiki treatment feel like?
A. It varies from person to person, but feelings of deep relaxation are usually felt by all. Many feel a calming flow of warmth around them. Reiki energy encourages you to let go of all tension, anxiety, fear or other negative feelings. This leads to a state of peace and well-being. At the end of the treatment, it is common to feel refreshed with a more positive, balanced outlook.
Q. What can be treated with Reiki?
A. Reiki can have a positive affect on all forms of illnesses and conditions (mental and physical). This includes minor things like head or stomach aches, bee stings, colds, flu, tension and anxiety, as well as serious illness like heart disease, cancer, leukemia, etc. The side effects of regular medical treatments have also been reduced or eliminated. This includes the negative effects of chemotherapy, post-operative pain and depression, as well as improving the healing rate and reducing the time needed to stay in hospital. Reiki always helps, but please be aware that it is not a miracle cure.
Q. Do I have to stop seeing a regular doctor or psychologist in order to receive a Reiki treatment?
A. No. Reiki works in conjunction with regular medical or psychological treatment. If you have a medical or psychological condition, it is recommended that one see a licensed health care professional in addition to receiving Reiki treatments. Reiki energy works in harmony with all other forms of healing, including drugs, surgery, psychological care or any other method of alternative care and will improve the results.
Q. Is it safe for pregnant women?
A. Reiki can only do good. Many pregnant women have received treatments with great benefit to them and their unborn child. It has also been used during child birth. One pregnant client of mine told me that she felt especially bonded with her baby during and after our Reiki sessions.
Q. What about babies?
A. Babies love Reiki. It is very healthy for them. Don't worry about it being too strong. Reiki automatically adjusts to what the baby needs.
Q. Are there any side effects from a Reiki treatment?
A. Most of the time a person will feel relaxed and uplifted by a Reiki treatment. However, sometimes a person will have what is called a healing crisis. As a person’s energy goes up, toxins that have been stored in the body will be released into the blood stream to be filtered by the liver and kidneys and removed from the system. When this happens, sometimes a person can get a headache or stomach ache or feel weak. If this happens, it is a good idea to drink more water, eat lighter meals and get more rest. The body is cleansing as part of the healing process so this is a good sign.
Q. Are there any scientific experiments that demonstrate Reiki works?
A. Yes, see this UK article below from the The Guardian newspaper:
